This year was the 176th edition of the Gentse Feesten, the ten-day city festival attended by more than 1 million visitors. There are 15 different squares and 8 stages spread all over the city. Such a setting requires immense organization, production and safety. Citymesh helped some parties at this festival with our expertise in wireless connectivity.

5G for emergency services

When so many people come to a city, it is difficult to rely on public networks for critical connectivity. That is why the emergency services have asked Citymesh to set up its own network for the connectivity of the LED banners and CP-OPS. Today Citymesh is the only operator that can roll out these private 5G networks. Using our network, emergency services can be sure that no matter what happens, their mission-critical broadband connectivity is available at all times.

Footfall Analytics

A few months ago, the city of Ghent asked us to install our Footfall Analytics solutions throughout the city. This solution provides detailed information about the number of visitors who come to Ghent, how they move around the city, how long people tend to stay in a certain place, whether there is traffic jam etc.

Thanks to our dashboard, we can display all important data at a glance, such as unique visitors and the time spent in a region. It is also possible to make a deeper analysis. Here we can discuss a certain selection of measuring points, time schedules and we can even compare periods side by side. The City of Ghent has its own data team that has access to the data from our API. It is important to know that all data collected is anonymous data, fully in accordance with European GDPR legislation.

During these festivities, the city kept an eye on the flow of people and identified hotspots using our Footfall solution. After that, it is easy to compare this edition with last year's edition.

Connectivity at Boomtown

One of the nicest stages of the Ghent Festivities is a full music festival called Boomtown. For many years, Citymesh has been taking care of all their connectivity needs. It starts with the production crew, who need connectivity a week before the start of the event. Boomtown was one of the pioneers in the field of electronic payment, that is, every bar and every charging point needs internet. Then there is the access control, VIP access, backstage area ...

Citymesh offers connectivity for more than 200 events per year, ranging from small business seminars, conferences to large festivals. We are also the internal IT partner of the largest event locations in Belgium.
